Road Tripping

Wow the Yankees really sucked in the last 19 games. I was hoping for a 13-6 record (which considering the Red Sox went 11-9 would have picked us up a few games in the standings), and instead the Yankees went 9-10. They couldn't even get a game above .500.

I'm finding myself thinking more often than not that the Yankees truly suck. Now, however, they are in the middle of a 3 game win streak and are playing Boston for the next three days.

So while they suck more often than not, they are still not out of it.

The Yankees enter tonight's game 9.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for first place in the AL East. A more realistic goal is the 5.0 games behind the Boston Red Sox for the wild card. What helps here is that the Yankees have six games remaining with the Red Sox. Hopefully that final series at Fenway will mean something.

The problem with the wild card hunt, however, is that the Yankees aren't just chasing the Red Sox, but they are also chasing the Twins (or White Sox depending on the day). The Yanks do have 4 games remaining with Chicago, but nothing with Minnesota, so this could possibly become a case of scoreboard watching. Hell, it probably already is a case of score board watching. Hell, I've been scoreboard watching since game 1 of the season.

So, there is no "record" goal for the remaining 32 games of the 2008 regular season. The Yankees have to do 5 games better than the Red Sox and just to be safe, 5 games better than both the Twins and White Sox.

The toughest stretch, I imagine, will be going from Tampa Bay to Seattle without a day off, and then playing those freaking Angels right after the Seattle series.

Some better play would be helpful.

I think Steinbrenner should sell this team. They are losing with the most expensive payroll. Now other teams that are stepping up and "buying" players. Steinbrenners strategy is old. Toronto is passing them up. That is just embarrasing. They should have a lot more championships than they have now. This franchise is one of the biggest failures in America. Money doesnt buy you everything. The Cubs are what America is all about. Take some lessons from Chicagoans New yorkers. Now that city breeds loyalty. Plus, its not a warfront like New York. Baghdad is safer. Do you still put your garbage in your front lawns? If it smells like garbage, looks like garbage, isnt it garbage?
